I created Shakespeare-themed merchandise for the gift shop at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater.
My concept for the merchandise combines classic and modern design elements, because Shakespeare’s plays are centuries-old classics that are commonly adapted to be relatable to modern culture. Serif typefaces are very traditional, so I chose serif typefaces that could be modified with special characters to give them a modern spin. The design on each of the products includes geometric vector artwork and watercolor images, another combination of the old and the new. I decided to make sun and star motifs for the vector artwork because they are often associated with magic, and the magician, Prospero, from The Tempest is often thought to represent Shakespeare himself.
